The order label and the issuer's rewards category are separate questions. Use an eligible DoorDash promo first when its immediate value beats a small multiplier difference, then compare rewards on the remaining charge. Do not assume every grocery order earns a grocery multiplier—or every order earns dining rewards.

Decision rules
- Check activation, eligibility, order subtotal, and the current promo period before comparing multipliers.
- Treat restaurant, grocery, and retail as separate promo intents; direct eligible DoorDash delivery can still earn Sapphire's 3× delivery rate.
- Count promo value only when you would naturally place that eligible order before it expires.
Common traps
- DoorDash grocery orders should not automatically be labeled ordinary grocery-category rewards; Chase lists direct DoorDash as select food delivery.
- Checkout promos are not statement credits and may exclude taxes, fees, and gratuity.
- Reserve's two $10 non-restaurant promos cannot be combined with each other on one order; other eligible order or card offers may stack only when their terms permit it.
$40 restaurant order
An eligible $5 checkout promo usually matters more than a 1–2 percentage-point rewards difference. Apply the promo first, then compare the reward value on the amount still charged.

Does every DoorDash order count as dining?
No. The merchant and order type can be classified differently, and issuers make the final coding decision. Choose restaurant, grocery, or retail in SwipeCue rather than assuming one category.
Should I use a promo before optimizing points?
Usually, when the order is eligible and the promo would otherwise expire. Compare the immediate promo value with the smaller rewards difference on the remaining charge.
